New MicroBusiness Academy in Press
BeInkandescent, an online magazine for entrepreneurs, ran an article about AACH’s new MicroBusiness Academy (MBA):
“...The program provides people who are at economic risk with the training, tools, and backing needed to conceive, launch, and build a successful micro-business. Many have experienced homelessness, or other trauma such as domestic violence. They often lack an established network of family or friends in the area.

Traditional sources of education, such as community college, are generally not an option for them, for financial and other reasons. The overarching aim is to help participants supplement household income, thereby achieving access to the economic mainstream. Hence our tagline: ‘An enterprising approach to making ends meet.’”
Women in Housing & Finance Supports AACH

AACH is proud to be among six non-profit organizations selected for the Women in Housing & Finance (WHF) Foundation Partnership Grants Program. WHF, Inc. is a premier association of women and men that actively promotes its members in the fields of housing and financial services while retaining a focus on its women members. In addition, many WHF members volunteer their time and talent to help low-income women and children with basic financial literacy skills, housing assistance, transition services and economic empowerment.
“We are always thrilled when we can demonstrate our commitment to non-profit partner organizations that are working in the community everyday to support women and families” says Foundation President Lisa Andrews. “This year’s grantees are at the forefront of providing direct services to families in need. Many of our partner organizations’ offer programs on basic financial literacy, and empower low-income women and their families to become more self-sufficient. It’s a time when many non-profits are experiencing cuts to charitable giving and funding, but the services they provide are needed more than ever. I am proud that WHF Foundation is able to continue making meaningful contributions to these worthwhile organizations.”

Back to School & Lookin' Cool
Do you remember what you wore on your first day of junior high? The beginning of a new school year is a critical time for making impressions and establishing friendships that follow children for much of their lives.

Now in its 7th year, Look Cool for School has helped hundreds of families give their children that special, new back to school outfit.
We are asking that each volunteer and/or group commit to purchase a complete outfit for the student including – a pair of pants, shirt, underwear, socks, pair of shoes, and book-bag for the child they adopt.
If you would like to support the Look Cool for School program, but are unable to adopt a student, AACH would gladly accept gift certificates of any amount to stores where clothing can be purchased (i.e. Target, Old Navy, etc.).
If you are interested in participating, please complete this survey or contact Lauren Barth.
When Life Gives you Lemons...Make a Stand!

Twelve children living at Sullivan House have decided to build a lemonade stand! They voted to donate half of the proceeds to the Special Olympics and to use the rest to fund a field trip to Busch Gardens. Over the course of the summer, children will learn the basics of starting a business, managing money, and marketing. Come by Sullivan House Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 5 pm and 7 pm beginning July 10 to enjoy a tasty beverage and support a great group of kids!
These people helped to keep our family together. God used them as a light to help us find our way.
