Help families plan and launch micro businesses

Recently, we have launched an exciting a Micro-business Enterprise Initiative that is designed help families to become involved in small scale, home-based business activities as a way to supplement their household incomes. Vital components of this initiative include training, a loan fund, and mentorship provided by members of the local community.

There are a number of exciting and meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in helping families through the business planning process and providing valuable follow-up advice and counsel to them as they actually launch their micro businesses.

While volunteer opportunities in this area involve a fairly long-term commitment, the actual work involved is not intense and is suited for someone requiring flexible scheduling. We are especially interested in recruiting volunteer mentors with backgrounds in business management, sales, marketing, and finance.

I was working on my Bachelor of Arts degree while living at the shelter. LifeWorks skills training, workshops and sessions helped me push forward to reach my goal… Someone once told me that I would never get hired as a teacher in Arlington. Here I am.
I am now an Arlington County Public School Teacher.
